Weeeeee, I love Nintendo! — Nintendo Wii

Filed under: Nintendo Wii — Zelda Wii @ 6:55 pm

The team over here as been extremely busy and we are finally gathering together to finally make some new posts! I’d like to mention that Nintendo has finally released their name for their new system which was formerly-codenamed “Revolution”. Nintendo Wii!! ZeldaRevolution.com was a domain that I had so I made sure to go out and register ZeldaWii.com as soon as I heard the news. I though I wouldn’t have been able to purchase it, but a good friend had done it for me. Thank you Andy!!!

The name Wii is pronounced “we” and the idea behind is that Wii is the answer! Big N had these following comments:

Introducing… Wii. As in “we.” While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games… and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it’s really not about you or me. It’s about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything.

I think their marketing behind their concept is brilliant. We would like to know whether you think the name is well suited for the next-generation console. N64 and Nintendo Game Cube both had excellent names. I thought Nintendo Revolution was also well suited. As much as I miss that name, I hope Nintendo Wii will provide that special spot in my heart.
